You don't like mates? Maybe you better not help your child with homework

When it is time to help children with their homework, there are subjects for which we feel more prepared than others. I am of letters, of course, and the mates make me quite nervous, I confess. That is why when they touch problems and divisions, I give the witness to the father, who is given much better.

Maybe you better not help your child with homework if you don't like killing them. According to a study that has evaluated the results of children helped by their parents in homework, hatred (or distaste for) math is spread from parents to children.

The research, published in the journal Psychological Science, suggests that the worse parents have a relationship with mathematics and the more anxious they get when helping their children with their homework, the children learn less about this subject.

The study was conducted with 438 first and second grade students in the United States, along with their parents. The level of stress of the parents before the mathematics was evaluated with a questionnaire and the anxiety as well as the results of the students in the subject at the beginning and at the end of the course were also observed.

Parents who tried to help children with homework but showed disinterest or stress with the subject they spread their feelings to the child, and these had on average worse results than the children of parents with a better attitude towards mathematics. In addition, the results worsened the more time the parents spent doing homework with their children.

Therefore, if the numbers are not your forte, it is preferable to go to someone with a positive attitude that can help your child with homework. Thus, you will probably save him from inheriting your rejection of mathematics. You still have time.
