The oral health plan is already underway

As we announced in "Babies and more" last September, the famous has already been launched "Oral Health Plan", thanks to the fact that the Council of Ministers approved this month a royal decree on the economic subsidies that the different Autonomous Communities need to cover the objectives of said plan.

The Ministry of Health will be responsible for finance half the cost of the services covered by the Plan, which may amount to approximately 45 euros per child per year. The different Autonomous Communities can voluntarily enroll in this program. Remember that there are already some Communities that are carrying out a similar project. They may subscribe to the program regardless of whether they are already developing it.

Some of the advantages that this project will entail are:

  • an annual review that may include x-rays if needed
  • sealing fissures in healthy teeth to prevent tooth decay
  • fluoride application
  • fillings and endodontics
  • tooth extraction as a treatment
  • mouth cleanings
  • special treatments for diseases or dental injuries

Likewise, the Plan also includes a program for the promotion of oral hygiene.

It is estimated that this project may benefit around one million children, between the ages of seven and eight. It is expected that in the next five years, the age can be extended to fifteen, which would then cover four million Spanish children.
