The European Institute for Prevention Studies (Irefrea) has conducted a study examining different parental styles, and their relationship with drug use. 7718 boys and girls from Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia and the Czech Republic have participated.
The investigation has sought question that authoritarian style is the most appropriate, and in my opinion if it is not the best in young children, it cannot be the same with adolescents, taking into account the progression in their emotional and social development. Researchers have verified that Authoritarianism does not work in the prevention of drug use, but neither does the negligent style..
It seems that a good relationship between parents of children, without neglecting the rigor in the issues that are necessary, acts as a protective factor against the use of addictive substances. Therefore, the suitability of the authorizing style is indicated. These families demand compliance with family norms and personal responsibilities; but they are also clear and able to reason.
