The mascots of the 2012 London Olympics are everywhere!

We already commented on Peques and Más about the mascots of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Wenlock and Mandeville, in 2010 when Sebastian Coe presented them and we included a video explaining their origin. It is a tribute to two of the British towns with more importance for the Olympism.

They are designed by the company Iris, and the person responsible for their creation was Michael Morpurgo. It is said that they were born from the leftover steel drops of the last beam that the Olympic stadium needed. This symbolism was one of the reasons chosen by the International Olympic Committee because it reminds us that its obtaining was the result of the effort.

To celebrate the start of the games, more than 80 figures have been assembled throughout London and the kids are delighted with them taking pictures and imitating their poses. Obviously there is also room for business because Wenlock and Mandeville need to look good and help increase sales. They are expected to bill more than 100 million euros from the sale of products with these pets.

Of alien appearance, Wenlock and Mandeville are characterized by having only one eye. Wenlock has five bracelets on the left wrist, representative of friendship, plus three points on the head, identifying the podium. For his part, Mandeville uses a pink stopwatch in which you can read a time of 0:20:12, coinciding with the date of the year of the Games. Its head, which resembles a helmet with three points, in blue, red and green colors, represents the Paralympic symbol.

Pets have their account at Twitter with more than 15,000 followers each. You can find them in @iamwenlock and @iammandeville, in addition to their page in Facebook: Wenlock and Mandeville to be able to continue their adventures for sporting events, for cities and to see how children enjoy themselves.
